BAWA CUP: WFCC v UNCC, Match Report & Scorecard

Western Flyers (164 for 6) beat UNCC (160 for 6) by 4 wickets.

Western Flyers maintained their 100% start to the season as they inflicted a second defeat in as many games on pre-tournament group A favourites UNCC in a thrillingly close match on Tuesday evening. For the few spectators who came to watch this was T20 cricket at its most gripping, a perfect showcase of what makes this form of the game so exciting. The pre match talk had been of Western Flyers avenging last year’s semi-final defeat, and with UNCC likely to be fired up after a shock defeat in their opening match, everything pointed towards a close match. Nobody however, would have predicted it would be quite this close. It all came down to a final over which was packed with drama, if there had been an entrance fee, it would have been worth it on its own.

BAWA CUP: WFCC v Sitting Ducks, Match Report & Scorecard

Western Flyers CC (174 for 5) beat Sitting Ducks (109 all out) by 65 runs.

Western Flyers got their 2014 BAWA cup campaign off to a strong start as they ran out comfortable winners against a lacklustre Sitting Ducks side in their opening group A clash.

Having won the toss in gloomy and somewhat drizzly conditions Western Flyers opted to bat first and openers Shehan and Atiq cashed in straight away on some poor bowling and even poorer fielding. With the run rate at almost 10 an over and the bowling looking decidedly unthreatening a big total was starting to look certain, the only opportunities coming from dropped catches as the batsmen tried to put pace on a ball that was coming very slow off the wicket. Sitting ducks made the breakthrough in the 6th over as Shehan played across the line to a good ball and was bowled having scored a quick-fire 25 off 18 balls. As is often the case one wicket quickly led to two with captain Atiq departing the following over caught and bowled for 20 off 16 balls.

University of Bath Venturers vs WFCC 29th April 2014 Match Report & Scorecard

New name, new logo, new committee, new captain, new season and new beginnings! A winning start for the Western Flyers in what could be termed a ‘very friendly’ game and more importantly a good run out for everyone. New captain Atiq took this opportunity to experiment with the team based on individual player preferences for which he accommodated to see what everyone had to offer.

The Venturers could only raise 7 players for this match and as WFCC turned up with 12, it was decided that WFCC would lend them 2 players (Yameen and Shehan) making it a 9 v 10. Following this, there were weather concerns and of course diminishing light at this time of the year so both teams agreed on a 16 overs per side encounter.
