Bristol
Chargers (230-6) beat Western Flyers (69 all out) by 161 runs
Western Flyers run in
the 2014 BAWA tournament came to a humbling end on Monday evening as they were
beaten in emphatic fashion by last years winners Bristol Chargers. Having won
all four of their previous fixtures to finish at the summit of group A Western
Flyers were in confident mood prior to the quarter final draw last week.
However, that mood was soon dampened by a draw which bizarrely lacks any kind
of seeding system. When two of the only three teams to win all their group
stage games are drawn against each other at the quarter final stage you have to
question the logic behind the organisers methods. It seems these methods are in
as much need of a complete overhaul as Alistair Cook's captaincy. Still if
you aim to win the tournament you will have to beat the best teams and the draw
presented an opportunity for WFCC to see just how far they have come since the
huge defeat they suffered to Bristol Chargers in the group stages the previous
season.
