Man of the match Jude
Mudannayke was interviewed after the Sunday’s defeat against Bristol
Malayalees. You can read a full transcript of his interview below:
on his thoughts
about the game…
The
game as a whole I feel was a good one for the team. We started quite poorly
with both openers dismissed for 0 but I think Saad, Yameen and myself held the
batting together well and managed to dig ourselves out of a hole. Unfortunately
one of us couldn't go on and bat the 40 overs.
on his game plan
when batting at No.3…
The
thing is when you bat at no.3 you need to be prepared for all situations; the
team could be 0/1 for or 100/1 it is about adapting to the situation. If you
look at the best number 3s around the world they do that very well. Today when
I walked in it was case of stringing partnerships and breaking down 40 overs
into small segments. Setting small targets and achieving them along the way for
a big score.
on the target
(183) which WFCC set for the opponent…
I
think at 2/2 our initial target would have been 160 but obviously as we built
partnerships we revised that target. I think when Yameen and myself were batting
we wanted to take our partnership to the 32nd over and reassess but I think we
were looking at 220 which would have been an excellent score. I think 183 was
about par on that ground considering the short boundary.
on almost
pulling the game back & where did WFCC lose the game…
Well,
see in hindsight you can say this and that. When you are playing out there in
the middle it was not easy to accelerate. I feel the Malyalee's got the better
of the conditions when the pitch had lost that early moisture. When we batted
the pitch was a bit two paced. Also you got to remember we had a very in
experienced batting line up after Yameen so if both of us went all guns blazing
at the 25th over and got out we could have been dismissed for 120 which would
have been unacceptable. Had one of us batted through to 40 overs and got 200+ I
am sure we will be having a different conversation right now. I think the
spinners were briliant in particular Saad I mean that was one of the best spin
bowling spells I have seen in a WFCC shirt. At 95/0 I thought it was a great
effort by the boys to pull the game back. I think our seamers were a bit off-colour
today and perhaps spin introduced quicker would have been a better option but I
am sure we will learn from this for the next one.
on team
expectation for the big game against Bath Ventuerers…
Playing
against Bath is always a special game. Over the last two years they have had
the wood over us with us only winning one game at the Sullis club but I think
the team is in good spirit and we are a confident t20 outfit and also few of us
have a score to settle with them so I am sure we will be fired up and ready for
the game and hopefully come away with the bragging rights.
