Western Flyers (232/8) beat Bristol Malayalees (136 all out) by 96 runs.
The Malayalees never really looked in the game as their opening batsmen had no answer to the Flyers opening bowlers Hamdi and Owen who bowled with good lines and lengths. Hamdi on debut bowled with pace and aggression and got his just reward by cleaning up the captain for 8. Owen bowled with good control and was tight as ever and on a couple of occasions missed the stumps by millimetres and was unlucky not to get the wicket. With the asking rate climbing, the spinners Saad, Naufel and Mahdi continued to apply the pressure with yet more disciplined bowling backed up by some good fielding. Naufel got the 2nd wicket by beating the batsmen in flight followed by some quick glovework from the keeper Jehan to whip the bails off. Shehan brought himself on and got immediate success by getting 2 wickets in his first over by clean bowling the batsmen. Yameen was also brought on from the other end and the bowling pair tore through the middle-lower order with the pair taking 7 wickets between in 10 overs. Mahdi who had taken over as keeper was excellent with 2 very good catches off Yameen’s bowling and looked very competent for someone who usually bowls. Saad ended the Malayalees misery by having the last batsmen caught at mid-off by Owen allowing Flyers to triumph by 96 runs.

Match Report -
Yameen opened the batting with debutant left hander Irfan on what was a slow wet track from the overnight rain. The pair got off to a steady watchful start and gradually ticked the score over with the odd boundary. The opening stand lasted 66 runs before Irfan was caught hooking at deep square leg which was shortly followed by Yameen trapped LBW attempting a sweep. Saad and another newcomer Mahdi settled in nicely by running well between the wickets and cracked some lovely boundaries as the pair looked to build on the earlier foundation. Saad was dismissed to a spectacular one handed catch at point which brought skipper Shehan to the crease. Mahdi and Shehan put on a solid partnership with Shehan picking up from where he left off from last season. The pair were eventually dismissed due to the slowness of the pitch however a solid foundation had been set allowing the remaining batsmen to capitalise and eek out as many runs as possible. There were notable efforts from Simon, Jehan, Naufel and Hamdi who all contributed nicely towards the final score of 232-8. Truth be told, the Flyers were greatly aided by some atrocious fielding from the Malayalees as well as leaking a grand total of 45 extras! A more than competitive total none the less.
