BAWA Cup (20 over): WFCC vs Pie Chuckers, Match Report & Scorecard

Western Flyers (134/6) beat Pie Chuckers (91/7) by 43 runs.

Match Report -

Flyers in action against Pie Chuckers
Despite a very late start from the opposition getting the start time wrong, play eventually got under way with the Flyers batting first through mutual agreement (2nd time this season) between Shehan (on time for the 2nd time in a row) and the opposition skipper.

Shehan was dismissed early doors offering a skier to the mid-off fielder. Nathan had joined the makeshift opener Yameen where the pair attempted to establish a platform against some very slow but accurate bowling. Yameen was soon dismissed for LBW despite there being very mild light hearted appeals from which the umpire had a very long think and raised the dreaded finger. Nathan batted sensibly ensuring solidity at one end and made sure the bad balls were put away. Ian was expertly caught at slip for 5 followed by Nathan for a well compiled 24 – beating his previous career best score of 8. Mahdi and Imran had built a solid partnership where the pair looked to escalate the run rate to get to a competitive score. Boundaries were difficult to get away but the pair made sure singles and twos were taken at pretty much every ball. Imran was eventually dismissed to a loopy full toss which brought Simon to the crease who hit some very good strokes to boost the team score. Saveen came in and hammered a quickfire 21 which included 2 4s and 2 6s to take the Flyers to 134-6 in their 20 overs.

The Flyers took to the field and wanted to get this wrapped up quickly with Yameen and Saveen to open the bowling. Both bowled with great accuracy and kept the runs to a minimum with the Flyers conceding only 12 off the first 6 overs. Mahdi and Imran were brought on and with the batsmen finally realising there was a target to chase finally started to open up in their shot selection. They were however thwarted by some clever bowling from Mahdi who put all his variations on show and managed to take 3 wickets which included an expert stumping by Nathan who was looking more impressive behind the stumps. Paul and Tim were brought on for a spell of bowling and continued the good work from the previous bowlers not allowing the batsmen to get away as the pressure continued to build. Paul was unlucky not to get a wicket where the batsmen skied one towards mid-off and with Yameen running in to take it and Naufel running backwards the inevitable ensued. The drop catch was of course a forgone conclusion however the comedic collision between the pair was a reminder to all about how imperative it is to call for your catches! With injuries occurring left, right and centre, the Flyers continued on their victory march with Tim picking a well-deserved wicket. Simon was also brought on for an over to see out the game in diminishing light with Flyers prevailing by a comfortable 43 runs.

There were some notable fielding performances from in particular 3 sharp run outs from the deep by Imran , Shehan and Mahdi. Nathan had kept particularly well and in addition to his crucial innings was awarded Man of the Match.
